What Does Processing Involve?

What Does Processing Involve?

When you hire BOLD Real Estate Imaging, you are not just paying for the photography, but the processing of those images as well.

Perhaps you are thinking, but I tidied up meticulously and/or payed for staging. Well that’s great and will make all the difference. But believe it or not images still require processing. The camera does not always capture an image exactly as the human eye sees it or may not translate colours or lights the same (ie why does my blue house look green?!). So sometimes some professional editing brings the image closer to what the human eye actually sees or expects, for a more realistic photo and higher quality image.

When we process images we correct:

Perspective

Lighting

Remove ourselves from mirrors

Reflective Surfaces

There is the whole dilemma of small spaces and mirrors to take into account. Small spaces like a bathroom may mean only certain angles are available. Perhaps from the doorway or from the bathtub being the only options, and while we are not above climbing in the bathtub in our socks to get a shot, there may be no way to not capture our own image, camera in hand, in the mirror’s reflection. The same can go for televisions or other reflective surfaces. It is things like this that require some processing to remove the photographer from the image for professional look - after all we don’t come with the house ;)

Now you see her .....  now you don't!! Notice how your eye goes directly the photographer in the reflection, in the first image, instead of the rest of the image.

Lighting

Next, there is the concerns of lighting to address. Different lamps, overhead fixtures and light bulbs can all cast very different light and colours. Ever seen a photograph and wonder why everything looks so yellow (it may be the light bulb cast a yellowish hue)?! So try to shoot in the day with natural light you say? Well great, we do. Except not every area of a property has windows or even gets natural light (I am thinking of you again bathrooms!!). Factor in light varying throughout the day and whether it is overcast or sunny and which direction a property’s windows face and you further complicate things. Natural light streaming through a window can actually have the tendency to over expose that window (or patio door) in an image or darken the surrounding room. So there needs to be a light and exposure balance in a photo between showcasing a property’s possible view (out the window) with any interior decor or architecture. But this is exactly why you hired a professional, because this is our expertise and we can take care of this for you!

Perspective

Finally there is the matter of perspective. We are turning three dimensional spaces into one dimensional (or arguably two dimensional) images. Sometimes we have to play around with perspective for something to not look strange or unnatural to the eye.

Burning the Midnight Oil

Sometimes we get asked why we don’t work in the evenings. Well actually we do - processing  photos! That’s right, you are not only paying for the photography, but the processing of those images as well.

So hiring a professional with years of experience and expertise means you get processing with your images for the final finished, polished look you are looking for in showcasing your properties.
